Oh me, oh my, you make me sigh……….

Set in a pub in Cavan on a stormy St. Stephen's night. A knock at the door presents an unexpected guest in the shape of the legendary Joe Dolan, who is stranded in the town when his car breaks down. As the storm bears down, the music and craic flows, and we get a hilarious insight into the happenings of a rural pub on the night a legend drops by.

Fresh from a recent sell-out run, this hilarious new play by Padraic McIntyre features live music and a host of local characters, who will have you rolling in the aisles. A real treat for all who enjoy a great night of theatre and music.

Gúna Nua/Civic Theatre
Written by Elaine Murphy

Love, sex, birth, death, dildos and salsa classes: Little Gem sees three generations of Dublin women on a wild and constantly surprising journey. Kay's got an itch that Gem can't scratch … Lorraine attacks a customer at work and her boss wants her to see a psychiatrist … Amber has fierce bad indigestion and the sambucas aren't getting rid of it… Paul is just using Amber until he can get to Australia … and there's the hairy man who fancies Lorraine but fails to rise to the occasion. And of course let's not forget Gem, who doesn't like the neighbours coming in to 'mind' him. If all that wasn't bad enough, Little Gem makes his presence felt and life is never the same again.

After sell-out seasons in New York, London and Paris, and a sold-out seven week run at Ireland's National Theatre and the Olympia, Gúna Nua's multi-award winning bittersweet comedy staring Anita Reeves, Neili Conroy and Genevieve Hulme-Beaman promises to be a great night out.

Daniel Chester exhibition 'Successful Flaws' opens on Culture Night 2010
Sep 24th, 2010 (Fri) 6PM - 8PM
Event Type: Visual Arts & Architecture - Na hamharcealaíona & Ailtireacht
County: Roscommon - Ros Comáin
Venue: The Gallery, Roscommon Arts Centre

Daniel Chester's practice investigates issues that look at contemporary Ireland within the framework of social, political and economic conditions. Through the use of drawings, painting, video and photography, Chester aims to question the abuse of the capitalist model within modern Ireland and how this has had a dramatic effect on the Irish psyche, confidence and economic future.

Focusing on the Irish context, "Successful Flaws" looks at how the concept of motivational speakers are becoming a massive factor within global business development, and how many people are now searching for direction and guidance during the current recessional period.

Daniel Chester is a visual artist living and working in County Leitrim. He has recently completed a Masters in Visual Arts Practices through the College of Art and Design, Dun Laoghaire. He has recently exhibited in the shows "Corporate Republic" Leitrim Sculpture Centre, "White Noise" Studio Six, Temple Bar Galleries and "Public Gesture" The Lab, Dublin.

This exhibition continues until 28th October. Viewing during centre opening hours. All welcome.

The Diary of Anne Frank

Event Type: Music & Opera - Ceol & Ceoldrámaí

Opera Theatre Company

Vivid and insightful, this heart-rending opera re-creates the world of 13 year-old Anne Frank in hiding, living in hope and fear, and longing for normality for herself and her family. Sung in English, the focus is on Anne Frank's original words – her joy over a glimpse of blue sky, the budding love for her friend Peter, her determination to remain courageous, her humour and her resilient hopes for freedom, all of which find moving and eloquent expression in the poignant score.

Opera Theatre Company's 24th year of touring opera throughout Ireland continues with this memorable and atmospheric opera. Russian composer Grigory Frid, whose own family suffered enormously under Stalin, was so inspired by Anne Frank's diary that he created the opera in 1969. With Andrew Synnott conducting Opera Theatre Company's eight-piece chamber orchestra and with direction by Ingrid Craigie and Annilese Miskimmon, this compelling production marks the company's very first visit to Roscommon Arts Centre.
