An exhibition that combines painting, sculpture, drawing and animation in a tumbling, energetic series of visual artworks by Vanessa Daws. Cascade does not only reflect Vanessa's intuitive process, where one artwork triggers and shapes the idea for the next, it also refers to the artist's ongoing fascination with water, as inspiration and source of creative energy. Vanessa has exhibited widely in Ireland and in London, and her work is engaging and accessible to all ages. Cascade promises to be no exception.

An exciting exhibition of bronze sculptures and drawings by Mayo-based sculptor Rory Breslin. Though Breslin's exquisitely executed works are based in figurative realism, the tensions and disfigurements within them create uneasy viewing, often evoking the Classical man/monster myths of antiquity. Breslin's skill resides in his capacity to balance orthodox representation with at times a voracious and rich subconscious. A former lecturer in NCAD, and co-founder of the Head Sculpture Gallery in Dublin, Rory Breslin has had numerous solo drawing and sculpture exhibitions, both nationally and farther afield (Europe, US) and has executed a large body of public commissions.

Jackie Daly, accordion
Matt Cranitch, fiddle
John Faulkner, guitar, bouzouki, vocals
In ancient folklore, three is a magic number, and you can expect the combined talents of Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch and John Faulkner to let loose the Sliabh Luachra genie from the bottle. There's clearly some 'draíocht' in the waters of the upper Blackwater as this mountainous region on the borders of northwest Cork and east Kerry is renowned for its unique repertoire of slides and polkas as well as its very distinctive style of playing.
Though Jackie and Matt are both steeped in the rich musical traditions of the Sliabh Luachra, this collaboration with singer John Faulkner is very much a celebration of the here and now, the "living stream" of Irish music. An acclaimed songwriter and composer, John is a heartfelt performer who has traded lines with the likes of Ewan MacColl, Dolores Keane, Arty McGlynn and John Prine. Button accordion wizard Jackie needs little introduction to trad fans, and his work with legendary groups such as De Danann, Patrick Street, Arcady and Kinvara is testament to his versatility. Former Fleadh Cheoil winner and master fiddler Matt Cranitch is a founder member of the group Sliabh Notes, as well as a highly respected authority on and teacher of Irish traditional music.

Message of Peace tells the amazing story of a lesser-known Irish hero John Boyle O'Reilly: visionary, poet, rebel, freedom fighter, and civil rights activist. Galway troubadour Sean Tyrrell traces his journey from early childhood set against a backdrop of famine, revolution, Fenianism and penal servitude for life in Australia and his great escape from there to the USA, weaving effortlessly between narrative, instrumental and song as he traces O'Reilly's colourful life. Since the 60s, Seán Tyrrell has been a potent musical presence on the Folk/Trad scene, with a string of acclaimed CDs and collaborative projects to his name, including The Orchard, Cry of a Dreamer and The Midnight Court. A double CD of Message of Peace was released last year. This project has received funding through Deis, the Arts Council's Traditional Arts Initiative.

Jessica Hausner (a former pupil of Michael Haneke) directs an ensemble piece about the role of miracles in the modern world. Beautifully photographed and set against the backdrop of one of the world's most famous sites of religious pilgrimage, low-key performances and a deadpan streak of humour steer away from oversentimental or pious overtones, while posing provocative questions about the value of religion to those in need.
